Has hip pocket with velcro closure.  Not a super-low rise that might attract the likes of Britney Spears but sexy enough for Sandra Bullock - she bought 2 pairs of these shorts while shopping at one of their dealers in Tybee Island, Georgia (High Tide Surf Shop).  Perfect coverage for most women . . .
